Ahh, uncertainty, where chaos and unpredictability reign supreme. In the humans relentless pursuit of control, we convince ourselves that clinging to the familiar, even if it holds us back, is preferable to embracing the unknown in life. We yearn for certainty in an uncertain world, seeking safety within the boundaries of our comfort zones. We fail to remember that by surrendering to the unknown, we grant ourselves the freedom to explore the true depths of our being.
I like to think of self-sabotage as a game between the subconscious mind and our innate desire for control. This desire for control stems from our deep-rooted desire for security. The problem is, that also means that it’s rooted in a distorted perception of what safety truly is. Our subconscious mind mistakenly believes that by preventing us from taking risks or pursuing our dreams, it can shield us from potential failure, rejection, or disappointment. It believes that by playing it safe, we can maintain a semblance of control over our lives. But where’s the fun in that?
This game of self-sabotage becomes an unhealthy and vicious cycle. By avoiding challenges and staying in our comfort zones, we deny ourselves the opportunity for growth and fulfillment. We become trapped in a self-imposed prison, never fully realizing our true potential. Personally, I wouldn’t want to play this game. But most of the time, we don’t even realize we’re playing it.
To break free from the game requires a conscious awakening & willingness to confront our fears head-on. It requires challenging ingrained beliefs. It demands that we embrace uncertainty and acknowledge that true control lies in our ability to adapt and respond to life’s ever-changing circumstances. Mistakes and failures are commonly viewed as indications of weakness, but I like to think of them as stepping stones towards growth and personal evolution.

A little poem about this topic:*
–
control control control
it seems to be human nature
to be afraid of the unknown,
to be frightened by its threatening gaze
–
the gaze that says,
“step within me blindly, with no expectations
and grant me the freedom
of tuning into the sound of your soul
for better or for worse
–
either way,
you will learn a lesson
either way,
you will grow.“
